Here are some stringed instruments, whose strings need to be plucked: guitar, harp, sarod, sitar.

The first two are not Indian instruments and it is most unlikely that you will find Indian music being played on a harp. On the other hand, guitars are being used quite frequently in India, as part of recent experimentation with musical styles.

More sarods are visible here: Music For Yoga.

A sitar, played by Sunil Das, provides most of the melody in this sample, from the Sona Rupa CD Sacred Mantras of India.
